Apartments in Greenwell Springs and Central City -- You Won't Be in a Sleepy Suburb!

About 20 minutes northeast of Baton Rouge sit Central City and Greenwell Springs. Technically, Greenwell Springs is an unincorporated community that's part of Central City, but the locals refer to each one individually. And, no matter how you slice it, both places are growing communities that have become popular Baton Rouge suburbs.

Here's what you need to know if you're thinking of renting an apartment in Greenwell Springs or Central City:

- There are more people here than you think

Central City is actually one of the largest cities in the state, so if you think your apartment is going to sit in some sleepy suburb, think again! At last count, more than 25,000 people called this area home, so you'll have plenty of neighbors to meet and become friends with!

- The schools here are independent

If your kids are going to be living in your Greenwell Springs or Central City apartment with you, they'll go to one of the schools in the Central Community School District. Every student in this district is required to wear a uniform, so you won't have to worry about having any fashion-related problems on school days!

- There's a distinct local spirit

Even though Central City wasn't officially incorporated until 2005, the city pride runs deep here. You'll notice it as soon as you move into your Greenwell Springs or Central City apartment. In fact, most of the popular restaurants here are family-owned and operated -- instead of the non-personal chains that you see in bigger cities. And, there's a wide variety to choose from. Families here run everything from barbecue joints, to upscale French restaurants, to sports bars, to Mexican restaurants, to Cajun restaurants.

- There's plenty of shopping

Even though Baton Rouge is only a few minutes away, Central City has more than enough of its own shopping to get all of your "regular" errands done. There are a few grocery stores here, and there's also a Walmart Supercenter here. You'll also find a couple of clothing stores, along with a few secondhand stores. Most of the shopping in Central City can be found along Hooper Road, with the exception of the Walmart, which is on Sullivan Road. There are also a few stores at the Central Plaza in Greenwell Springs.

If you're looking for a traditional mall, you'll have to head to Baton Rouge's Cortana Mall to get it. Luckily, though, the mall is only about 10 miles southwest of downtown Central City.
